Heart of Portsmouth boxer Tilly Hymers Class A (40kg) won the national title and gained a sweet revenge win recently at the England Boxing Junior Championships 2018 at the
Magna stadium in Rotherham. Having previously lost on split decisions in recent matches to Rosie Boyton (Danson Boxing Club). Hymers did not leave the decision to the judges this time.
Hymers was on point from the start of the contest, landing pain seeking jabs to the head and body. Before releasing, effective heavy rear hand punches.
The referee was forced to stop the contest after giving Hymers opponent two standing counts in the first round. Crowning Tilly Hymers the England Boxing National Junior Champion 2018.
HOP Head Coach of the junior boxers Dave Johnston was over the moon with Hymers performance. Johnston commented “our game plan was to attack from the bell, I am very pleased with tilly performance”.
HOP’s second national finalist was Holly Heffron who put in a strong performance in her semi-final bout by again stopping her opponent in the second round. A fast and furious pace mixed with speed and power proved too much
For her opponent and the referee stopped the contest early in the first round. Heffron then faced England International Chantel Whitting in the national final. After three very close rounds of Boxing Whitting took the decision on points.
HOP’s Sonny Driscol took on England International and last year’s 3 Nations Champion Junaid Bostan (Steel City) in the national semi-final . After 3 close rounds of boxing, Driscol went out of the championships on a close point decision.
Holly Heffron has now been joined by Sonny Driscol and Tilly Hymers on the England Talent Pathway programme. After the tournament both boxers were told that they had been selected after their impressive performance at the championships.

The first round was on Saturday 24/25th March, which saw both brother Ahmed Adenas (69kg) & Walid Adenas (75kg) progress through to the Hampshire final with team mate Aaron Prosper (64kg),
Xian Blackburn Price (64kg) & Kerry Davies (75kg), Bamidele Ogunseye (Tex) (Super Heavy). Team GB Boxer Ivy-Jane Smith has been seeded as number one at (51kg) and will enter the
National championships under the GB/ HOP Banner.
HOP Team GB Boxer - U22 European Championships 2018 – Romania
HOP boxer (51kg) Ivy-Jane Smith is currently out in Romania representing Team GB in the U22 European Championships.
Ivy jane smith – Beat the Greece Champion Aikaterini Koutsogeorgo Unanimous Decision of the judges.
Ivy Jane Smith is now in the semi-final place of the championships.
Ivy –Jane Smith who was put straight onto the GB Team after winning a Silver Medal in the World Championships last year.
A Former Heart of Portsmouth Boxer but now boxing for the Army Boxing team, Ebonie Jones has also won her bout and is through to the
Semi Finals whilst representing Team GB.
