Boxing Awards Programme for Schools & Education Providers
At Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy, we believe that boxing is one of the most effective ways to build self‑confidence, resilience, and positive self‑esteem. As an inclusive community club, we welcome participants from the age of five upwards, offering a safe and supportive space where young people can have fun, make new friends, and explore the sport of boxing at their own pace.
As a Community Interest Company (CIC), we deliver the nationally recognised Boxing Awards Programme — a structured, non‑contact pathway designed to introduce students to the fundamental skills of boxing. The first three stages (Preliminary, Standard and Bronze) focus on enjoyment, skill development, and personal achievement. Each level provides opportunities for students to earn certificates and medals, all delivered by our qualified Boxing Tutors and Coaches.
Throughout the programme, students learn key elements such as fitness, skipping, footwork, and basic punches, all under the supervision of experienced and fully qualified coaches. Sessions are designed to be engaging, rewarding, and accessible for all abilities.
We understand that parents and carers often have questions when a child expresses an interest in boxing. All recreational boxing within the Awards Programme is strictly non‑contact. Should a young person complete the first three stages, be of suitable age and ability, and express a genuine interest in progressing further, they may be invited — with parent or guardian agreement — to join our evening club sessions. Here they can work towards the Silver, Gold and Platinum Awards, which gradually introduce controlled semi‑contact skills in a safe, supervised environment.
The Boxing Awards Programme is particularly effective for young people who may be disengaged from traditional learning or who experience behavioural challenges, anxiety, or low confidence. Its step‑by‑step structure, clear routines, and emphasis on positive reinforcement help students develop self‑regulation, trust, and a sense of achievement. Schools and support services consistently report improvements in confidence, emotional wellbeing, and engagement in wider education.
The programme can also contribute towards GCSE PE, ASDAN, AQA Unit Awards, Duke of Edinburgh (Skill or Physical), and the King’s Award.
