Silver Award
Silver Award Training Plan

The Silver Award is for all who have successfully completed the Bronze Award. This course includes shadow boxing, condition sparring, basic knowledge of the rules of boxing and plenty of circuit training to get you fit. All candidates must have completed and passed a full boxing medical. Sparring must be conducted in a boxing ring and supervised by an ABA qualified coach.

Introduction

Gains one credit towards ASDAN Boxing GCSE

For participants aged 10 years and over who have successfully completed the Bronze Award and passed a full boxing medical. You will be expected to demonstrate condition sparring, set moves, variations on upper cuts, a warm-up routine and pad and partner work. Assessment will also focus on your shadow boxing skills, skipping and bag work. You will also need to answer 5 short oral questions on the rules of Amateur Boxing.

Technique and Partner Work

You will be expected to show six demonstrations from the following: straight lead/rear hand to head and body and lead hand/rear hand hook to head and body. You will be expected to show defence actions against straight lead to head and body and defence against flead/rear hand hook to head/body.

Shadow Boxing

You will assessed on basic footwork, jab, rear hand, lead/rear hand hook, combination punching, static and on the move in all directions.

Conditional Sparring

You will be given set conditions by the examiner, which must be used in sparring. Any aspect of the syllabus can be set as a condition. The spar will consist of three 1½ minute rounds with one minute rests. Marks will be given for skill, self-control, appearance, behaviour and fitness.

Rules and General Knowledge

You will be asked five short questions on the rules and general knowledge of amateur boxing.
