The Gold Award is for all who have successfully completed the Silver Award. The programme includes shadow boxing, condition sparring, basic knowledge of the rules of boxing and plenty of circuit training to get you fit. All candidates must have completed and passed a full boxing medical. A qualified Boxing Awards coach must be in attendance whilst all sparring is taking place. Sparring is to be conducted in aboxing ring.
Introduction
Gains one credit towards ASDAN Boxing GCSE
For all holding the Silver Award and in possession of a full boxing medical certificate. Over the programme you will practice a full training session which you will be assessed on. This will include a warm-up routine, skipping ability, variations in shadow boxing, the use of training equipment and a conditioned spar. You will also need to write a small piece (minimum 100 words) on a set topic about amateur boxing.
Assessment
Individual warm up
You must be able to demonstrate an individual warm up preparing joints and muscles for a training session. The warm up should last approximately 10 minutes. Points will be added for originality.
Skipping
You must be able to demonstrate the ability to skip continually for two rounds of 1 ½ minutes each round showing variation of balance and speed.
Pad Work
You will be given set conditions by the Coach/ Examiner. Any aspect of the syllabus can be set. The pad work will consist of two 1½ minute rounds with one minute rests. Marks will be given for self-control, skill, fitness, behavior and appearance.
Bag work
Round One: You must be able to demonstrate any skill or theme requested by
the assessor.
Round Two: You will be asked to demonstrate a variety of skills, moving in all
directions
Shadow Boxing
You will be required to shadow box demonstrating your own ability for two rounds of 1½ minutes each round. The assessor may ask you to demonstrate set moves.
Condition Sparring
You will be given set conditions by the coach/examiner, which must be used in condition sparring. Any aspect of the syllabus can be set as a condition. The spar will consist of three 1½ minute rounds with one minute rests. Marks will be given for self-control, skill, fitness, behavior and appearance.
Circuit Training (Ton-up)
This includes ten exercises with or without apparatus. The sequence will expect you to perform the circuit three times. The circuit should include ten repetitions of each exercise with a 1 minute rest in between.
Coaching
You will be required to introduce a new person to the ABA boxing awards and show the ability to teach them basic boxing. Or attend and complete a Boxing Tutor Course (16+ years).
Warm Down
You should demonstrate knowledge of a warm down and flex after the session.
Conduct
Marks will be given for enthusiasm and appearance.
Written Project
You are required to write a short piece (minimum 100 words) to include all the following topics:
- The commitment and dedication of a boxer.
- The importance of warming up and cooling down.
- The boxer’s behaviour outside the ring.
