The Bronze Award is for participants who have successfully completed the Standard Award. The course includes shadow boxing, non-contact sparring, basic knowledge of the rules of boxing and plenty of circuit training to get you fit.
Introduction
Gains one credit towards ASDAN Boxing GCSE
Now you are really starting to move forward. You will be taught bent arm punches (hooks) to head and body. You will be taught the different range of hooks (short, medium and long). You will also be taught how to incorporate hooks into your combination punching (jab, rear hand, lead hand hook). You will be getting fit by now and taking part in a colour circuit that will enable you to progress to different levels as you get fitter. You will be asked questions on the rules and also your general knowledge of Amateur Boxing. And again you will have to work hard and stay focussed in order to demonstrate the correct techniques when you take your Bronze Award Assessment.
Assessment
Technique and Partner Work
You will be expected to show six demonstrations from the following: straight lead/rear hand to head and body and lead hand/rear hand hook to head and body. You will be expected to show defence actions against straight lead to head and body and defence against lead/rear hand hook to head/body.
Shadow Boxing
You will assessed on basic footwork, jab, rear hand, lead/rear hand hook, combination punching, static and on the move in all directions.
Pad Work/Non Contact Sparring
You will be given set conditions by the examiner, which must be used in pad work or non-contact sparring. Any aspect of the syllabus can be set as a condition. The spar will consist of three 1½ minute rounds with one minute rests. Marks will be given for skill, self-control, appearance, behaviour and fitness.
Rules and General Knowledge
You will be asked five short questions on the rules and general knowledge of amateur boxing.
